Christmas was so magical that I was a little sad when the day ended. This is the first year we have been at home with Dave for Christmas and that is exactly what made it so wonderful. After our trip, the girls were pretty tired, so Christmas Eve was pretty low key. The girls relaxed with some shows while Dave finished building my fireplace surround. I told Dave that out of all his accomplishments (and there are lots) this is the most impressive! I have to get everything finished and painted then I will post some pictures of his handiwork. It is so thoughtful and pretty; one of my favorite Christmas gifts ever!
As the evening rolled around, we made some Snicker doodles for Santa Claus. The girls got to open up their cute jammies and pose for a darling picture. We sat down and read scriptures about the birth of Jesus, listed to some pretty songs, and talked about the reason for Christmas. After that special time, we drove around looking at Christmas lights. The neighborhood that we visited had white paper lanterns lining all the streets, it was beautiful. After we got home, we set out carrots and candy canes for Santa and his reindeer, then the girls went right to bed.
Dave and I stayed up and built a trampoline that Grandma and Grandpa Scott bought the girls for Christmas. It was freezing outside, but we got most of it done and were excited for the girls to see it. We went to bed right after we were done so Santa could visit. 12:30 am, Eden gets up to go potty and Cora wants to come sleep in our bed. I knew that Eden wanted to see her Santa gifts then I figured she would go back to sleep. After an hour of Cora kicking me in the back, I escorted her back to her bed. Eden wasn't there, so I searched the house and found her downstairs with glazed eyes watching a show. I explained that it was super early then sent her back to sleep. The best part was hearing the girls wake up the next morning. Dave and I laid in bed laughing as Eden told everybody exactly what they had gotten from Santa, the half eaten carrots and even the trampoline. (As she was telling them about the carrots, she gasped then ran to the back door to check on the trampoline just to make sure the trampoline was for real.) She had obviously been a busy little lady during the middle of the night!
We spent opened gifts, watched new movies, spent time together (playing Uno, mommy and baby Elsa, and sewing Barbie dresses), talked to family and enjoyed a nice simple dinner together. It was the perfect day.
I absolutely love this nativity Eden drew and the camel is my very favorite.
